Saturdays with the Indianapolis Art Center

Join with the Indianapolis Art Center:

FHC  is blessed to participate in a program offered by the Indianapolis Art Center on Saturdays starting June 11 through July 30 from noon to 4:00 pm.  The class will focus on youth to express their Ethiopian heritage through art. While the youth do not need to be art students, they do need to have an interest in becoming more artistic. This is a FREE, fun, hands on class  being taught by well know artists from Indianapolis , whom have traveled the world studying other cultures and their art.

Due to  space limitations, your child must register in advance if they desire to participate in this unique activity.  Students will be accepted based on registration dates until June 10, 2011.   To hold a spot either download, fill out this form, and return it to FHC, or, send an email with the student’s name, age, birthdate, address and phone number to  info@fhcenter.org.  The email will hold a spot for your child and will allow you to complete the registration form upon your arrival on June 11, 2011.

Program details follow:

Children 4-7 years of age will participate in gardening education, Ethiopian history and art/crafts.

Children 8-12 years of age will participate in “The American Scene”, which is a public art program that reflects the 1930’s American Scene movement.  “The American Scene” program allows participants to depict their Ethiopian heritage through art. Students will work closely with different local artists and arts educators to create a mid-size piece of public art that depicts the student’s view of their culture.

The groups will meet for approximately 20 hours throughout the course of the eight-week summer period. The goal is to reflect the student’s voices as well as to document their Ethiopian heritage. The final piece of public art will be displayed at Felege Hiywot Center.
