04 Dec FHC at the 2018 International Festival
Every year Indianapolis hosts the Indy International Festival at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. It’s an amazing event every year that you can attend with your entire family! Travel the world in just a few steps by visiting different booths to learn more about different religions, cultures, traditions and more from around the world! This year we took some of our students from The Felege Hiywot Center to not only volunteer their time but to experience the sites and smells from around the world.
The students got to see performances from different cultural groups and even a naturalization ceremony were hundreds of new Americans took their oath to become United States Citizens.
We enjoyed a performance by an Indian dance troupe. They brought the performance off of the stage and allowed the audience to get involved in the fun!
We spent some time “in” Africa learning about black history prior to slavery. One of our farm leaders, Naomi shared “I really enjoyed learning about the history, It was like a mind blowing experience to learn about the history and past culture.”
We ran into our friend Mary Clark from the International Marketplace!
We had a fantastic time learning from everyone we met at the festival! We’re looking forward to next year.
