Giving Back Kids Reunion
1648 Sheldon Street, Indianapolis, IN

The first group of youth that were apart of FHC's first program in the Fall of 2005 at School IPS#74 met for a reunion.

Previous to their attending Jr. High Schools, all members of this group met regularly together. However, as they have grown up and all moved to difference Jr. High Schools, it has not been possible for all members of the group to participate in any single event. At the same time, all members have been involved and have attended various different events throughout the year, while some of them have not seen others in a long time.

As a result, this event was scheduled to be a reunion day full of fun where they all could attend. The youth were so happy to see each other that they enthusiatically  greeted each other with hugs. The first topic of conversation was how much each of them have grown since the last time they were together. There were lots of catching up with each that was a major part of conversations since they go to different schools and don't see each other every day.

A volunteer from Kinkos has been working hard over the past couple of months to put together a "Multi-Year Book" of pictures of the Giving Back Kids that were taken since that first year (2005) they became part of FHC's program to the present. The "Multi-Year Books" contained 33 double sided pages of pictures. The kids were extreemly excited to receive the books and spent much of their time together remembering all the things they have done. A common comment heard was, "Remember when we did this...." and then they would share their memory and laugh together. One of the picture highlights shows the "Multi-Year Book" donar with one of the youth as the youth was telling him all about the picture and the activity behind it. The book is one more evidence that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Some of them have not been to the Center since last winter. They were very surprised to see the quadrupled size of the garden and to see all the renovation work that has been done on the house at 1650 Sheldon.

The reunion included a cookout with burgers and hotdogs from the grill and chips with salsa made from fresh ingredients from our garden, which were provided and prepared by some of the members of the Board of Directors. On their way home, each youth harvested fresh produce to take home.
